Travis County’s adult jail system has held roughly 1,600 inmates on any given day since the coronavirus crisis hit Central Texas two months ago.
Yet, remarkably, none of them have tested positive for COVID-19, an extraordinary feat considering the many outbreaks popping up at detention facilities elsewhere in the state.
As of Tuesday, 208 inmates in Bexar County had tested positive for the virus and had yet to recover. Tarrant County, home of Fort Worth, had 58. Fannin County, northeast of Dallas and with a small rural population, had two.
The state capital? Zilch.
